Materialism believes that the only thing that matters is matter. The basic beliefs of materialism are:
* Matter is all there is. If matter were to cease to exist, nothing would remain (Carl Sagan).
* Matter is eternal, or it came from nothing spontaneously (Isaac Asinov).
* There is no Creator because matter is eternal (Humanists Manifesto II).
* Humans are mortal. When the body dies so does the soul (Humanists Manifesto I).
Warning: This pseudo intellectualism is increasingly permeating our culture through the secular educational systems and electronic media communication, which is a frontal attack on biblical worldview that:
* God is a Spirit (John 4:24).
* God created the material universe (Gen. 1:1).
* Man is immortal with a soul that will outlive the body (Luke 16:9-31).
* A human soul is worth more than the whole world (Mark 8:36).
* Human life is more valuable than material possessions (Luke 12:15).
* There is a judgment after death (Heb. 9:27; Rev. 20:11-15).
The Big Idea: What matters most is not matter. What matters most is God and our
relationship with God as our Creator— Redeemer—LORD, which is more important than
any material possessions which we’ll leave behind when we die.
