This question is prompted by God’s verdict in Hosea 4:6 (NASB), “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
Knowing something about God and knowing God Himself are world apart. With more than two millennia of Judeo-Christian history, billions of people know about God, but how many of them really know God Himself?
Knowing something about God could make people religious, but it is knowing God Himself that makes people renewed in their belief system, in their behavior, and in their personality.
To correctly answer the question, “Do you really know God,” check yourself with this
Scripture:
“We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love [4] is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.”
(1 John 2:3-6).
Christ gave an invitation to a church group that applies to us today. Christ’s invitation is: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” (Rev. 3:20). Where is Christ in your life? Inside or outside the door of your heart? This is what determines if you really know God.
