John 8:34, 36
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Paradox: An apple tree is not an apple because it bears apple fruit, but it bears apple fruit because it’s an apple tree.
Interpretation: A sinner is not a sinner because he sins, but he sins because he’s a sinner by nature.
Theology: Our sinful nature is the root of our sinful deeds; therefore, our sinful nature needs to be transformed by God through spiritual rebirth to be saved from sin (Ps 51:5; John 3:3-7; 2 Peter 1:3-4)
Inspiration:
1. On the cross, Jesus broke the sins that bind us and He carried the burdens of sin that break us (Isa 53:3-5).
2. As our bondage breaker and burden bearer, Jesus beckons us to come to Him for rest (Matt 11:28-29).
3. Let us cast all our bondages and all our burdens on Jesus.
4. Is Jesus your bondage breaker and your burden bearer?
