Strength for the Weary

Strength for the Weary – Charisma Life Church

27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, And the justice due me escapes the notice of my God”? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:27-31 NASB)

Causes of Weariness:

*  Physical and mental exhaustion.  Examples:  Hard work of the body and the brain.  The brain uses the most energy, neuroscience tells us.

*  Emotional strain due to worry, anger, misunderstanding, hopelessness, or caring for sick or needy relatives.

*  Illustrations from the text:  Jacob or the nation Israel was emotionally weary for thinking that God didn’t care for them (v. 27), and their failure to understand that God wanted to give them renewed strength (vv. 28-29).

Cure for Weariness:

*  Trust God for strength and support (v. 29).

*  Remember that growing weary is naturally human (v. 30).

*  Humbly wait or hope in the LORD for renewed strength regardless of your situation
    (v. 31).

Personal Check-Up:

1.  What wears you down physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually?

2.  What life adjustments must you do to overcome your weariness?

3.  How will you apply your faith in God to enjoy freedom from weariness?

Encouragement:

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28).
